An Acorn Cèilidh (Social gathering or Scurry)
It was a dreary day in the enchanted forest, the sort of day where the morning started out overcast, thick with mist. But as the day went on the sun broke through sprinkling dappled light upon the forest floor. Pulling his cart full of acorns that he had collected for the winter, The gnome, came upon a young squirrel, sitting upon a branch of an ancient oak tree. The creature was busily engaged in cracking a nut open with its tiny paws, and it appeared to be quite content.
Gangr ever the friendly sort, approached the squirrel and said in a jovial tone, "Greetings, young one. Pray, what is thy name?"
The squirrel, startled by the sudden intrusion, looked up at the gnome with wide eyes. "My name is Iora," said the squirrel in a timid voice. "And who might you be?"
"I am Gangr, a gnome of this forest," he replied with a smile.
"A pleasure it is to make thy acquaintance, Gangr," said Iora. "What brings you to these woods on such a dreary day?"
"I am returning home” said Gangr. "I take great delight in observing the various flora and fauna of this forest. Wouldst, thou care to join me?" At that moment, two more squirrels joined the little gathering. They were very curious of this bearded creature with his cart of acorns. Iora, being a creature of the forest, told Gangr of the secret places where the finest nuts and berries could be found, and Gangr, being a gnome of great knowledge, imparted to Iora and his friends, his wisdom of the various herbs and mushrooms that grew wild in the forest. Gangr, ready to get back on his journey home shared with his new friends some of best acorns and invited them to visit his “Taigh na Coille” (Home in the woods)" sometime. Gangr then declared that we should ever be known to each other as “Anam Cara” (Celtic name for soul friend)....
